St Monica School, Southampton
SCOPE: Demolition and Asbestos Removal
PROJECT VALUE: £49,950
Asbestos Removal and demolition of St Monica Juniors School’s above ground swimming pool on behalf of Southampton City Council.
Live services were still feeding the building and required termination to incomers elsewhere within the school. The existing structure was com-pletely stripped out including removal of pool chemicals and notifiable asbestos removal prior to our demolition works.
The concrete constructed swimming pool and the steel framed, external corrugated cladding building is to be demolished to foundation level, where the foundations will be broken out and dug up. The site will be levelled, prepared, top soiled and turfed upon completion.
The school remains in full use during our works, however demolition works are being undertaken in school holidays to minimise disruption.
Due to the restricted access to the swimming pool building, early en-gagement with the local community and neighbours was essential. Vehi-cle movements and site deliveries had to be carefully organised with minimal disruption possible
During the initial phases further asbestos was uncovered which had not been identified in the R&D survey. With our in house specialist asbestos team we were able to remove quickly without affecting or programme.
