Key Project

St Giles Circus, London

CLIENT: Consolidated Developments
SCOPE: Partial Demolition of Listed Status Building and Associated Engineering Works

Located only metres away from the new Tottenham Court Road tube entrance, St Giles Circus consists of an island of buildings of various ages. The area is defined by Denmark Street, Charing Cross Road, St Giles High Street and Andrew Borde Street.

The buildings range from a few single storey structures to the main 5 storey buildings which front St Giles High Street.

The works rely heavily on our in house Engineering capability and include the design and erection of two temporary steelwork support systems to retained facades and buildings; the installation of bespoke lifting and support system to facilitate the relocation of a listed building. Careful demolition to remove redundant parts of listed building; install protection walls to weatherproof retained sections of buildings; underpinning and other foundation works and retaining walls; excavations for archaeologists; structural filling and laying of piling mat.

The fabric of the building consisted of steel frame, brickwork, masonry, pot and beam and timber floors with other structural timber members. The ‘soft strip’ of the buildings has already been completed.
The new development will consist of a mixed use scheme comprising residential, office and associated retail and public amenity spaces.

Due to the successful completion of Zone 1, we were awarded the Zone 2 works (as shown in blue on the below diagram) involving demolition and structural alterations to the buildings fronting Denmark Street.
