Printworks London is best known for housing the giant printing presses that once delivered the Metro and Evening Standard newspapers to London, the Press Halls are a fully soundproofed space, designed to contain the industry of what was once Western Europe's largest print facility, spread over 119,200 sq ft.
H Smith were appointed as Principal Contractor as part of a refurbishment plan that sees the Printworks become a ground breaking new multi purpose event space for the capital. Set to change the face of London’s cultural scene, Printworks is a 6,000 capacity licenced venue for music and the arts. Comprising of six vast events spaces, all arranged over multiple levels with a maze of corridors and rooms.
Soft strip scope includes the isolation and removal of M&E services, including air conditioning ducts, dismantling of 6 no newspaper presses, removal of the steel and concrete gantries to the upper level followed by the concreting of the old inkwells.
A specialist gantry crane was installed to facilitate the removal of the blue balconies.
Works are subject to a tight programme and have been carefully coordinated around scheduled events.
