Brentwood Town Hall, Essex
SCOPE: Soft Strip, Asbestos Removal
PROJECT VALUE: £300,000
Brentwood Borough Council awarded us the enabling works at Brentwood Town Hall consisting of asbestos removal and complete strip out to the building interior together with the exterior parking barriers and garages.
The Town Hall, originally constructed in 1957 and further extended in both the 1980s and 1990s consisting of basement and ground floor to level three, was utilised by the Council as an office block. In 2017 the Council embarked on a major refurbishment plan to remodel the Town Hall to create a service delivery hub that will see Brentwood Borough Council, Essex Police, Job Centre Plus, Citizens Advice Brentwood, Brentwood Min, Community Weddings and Brentwood Council for Voluntary Services deliver services from a single location. The town hall will also provide 19 privately rented residential units.
The site remained partially live throughout the duration of our works, with the building still hosting Council events including remembrance Sunday service. The project was successfully carried out with minimal disruption to these events and the partly tenanted basement.
Works were complicated by additional asbestos found between the 2nd floor ceiling, structural joists and 3rd floor zone. Our in house engineering team and licenced asbestos removal department worked together to ensure the safe removal of the asbestos under fully controlled conditions in accordance with HSE regulations.
